Uganda is not just the capital for Gorillas but also Chimpanzees and Kibale National park is the only park in the world where you’ll easily access chimpanzees in these evergreen thick forests. Hosting 13 primates and 1500 chimpanzees, Kibale is a must visit for all primate lovers. Kibale is also home to 70 mammals and 275 bird species located in the beautiful town of Fort Portal. On the trek, look out for the endangered red colobus monkey, Kibale has the world’s largest population of them. Other primates are the blue monkey, red tailed monkey, lack and while Colobus monkey, Uganda mangabey and more primates. Other mammals like African elephants, giant forest hogs and buffalos wander the forest floor. It is an important stronghold for Uganda mangabey, a rare national endemic (only in Uganda).
Itinerary
Day 1 –Â Depart for Kibale, Tour of Fort Portal
Morning –Â We’ll pick you up after your breakfast at your hotel and get started on the 5 hour journey to Fort Portal.
Afternoon –Â We’ll have lunch in Fort Portal and head on a tour of the towns iconic features like the town’s stalactites and stalagmites and explosive crater lakes.
Evening –Â Check into your hotel at the National Park and enjoy the scenery while you rest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bird watchingÂ
Morning –  The day will start with breakfast at your lodge  and we head out for Chimpanzee tracking starting with instructions at Kanyanchu Tourist Center. We’ll track chimpanzees for 3-4 hours and then enjoy a packed lunch or visit a community canteen.  Â
Afternoon –Â After your lunch, we’ll head out bird watching for 4-5 Hours to try and catch sight of the over 370 species of bird including the 138 bird species at Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Expect to see the Papyrus Gonolek, white collared Oliveback, papyrus canary white winged warbler.
Evening – Have dinner at your lodge and rest early.
Day 3: Nature Hike and Departure.
Morning – After an early breakfast at your lodge, we’ll head out on a 12km nature walk and hike taking on the tropical forest, swamps, grassland and riverine forest cover. On your way, look out for more bird and animal species like the superb sunbird, western Nicator, black bishop, galago and red forest duiker among others.
Afternoon –Â After lunch, well set off for Kampala stopping along the way for you to shop for souvenirs.
